Choro was the big star at the 7th Visa Award of Brazilian Music - Instrumental Edition, that ended yesterday dawn with the victory of the young mandolinist and choro player Danilo Brito, age 19.

The mandolinist, who has played in informal gatherings of this musical genre since he was a child, says that he is very pride for winning the prize with his style.

With sound system problems, Brito had to repeat the melancholic Choro da Saudade (Agustín Barrios), the second of three pieces he presented, but he said he was more worried about the first one, É Do Que Há (Luiz Americano), because he didn’t know if the audience had heard it properly.

To close, he gave proof of endurance with Picadinho a Baiana (Luperce Miranda)...

Danilo Brito, first place: “I am not against those who make mixtures, but I prefer the traditional choro, Pixinguinha style”
