Musician of 19 years old wins the Visa Award - Folha de São Paulo

The mandolinist Danilo Brito, 19, won the instrumental edition of the 7th Visa Award of Brazilian Music, whose results were announced Thursday night in a ceremony at Teatro Municipal de São Paulo. Brito receives R$ 110,000, along with the recording of an album for the Eldorado label.

There were 514 competitors. Four semifinals defined the five competitors for the award. All the finalists performed yesterday for the jury that included specialists Luciana Rabello, Ulisses Rocha, Paulo Bellinati, Amilton Godoy, Toninho Ferragutti, Flávio Florence, Nivaldo Ornelas, Antônio Carlos Neves Pinto and Zeca Assumpção and was presided over by maestro Nelson Ayres.

Brito interpreted "É do que Há", by Luiz Americano, "Choro da Saudade", by Agustín Barrios, and "Picadinho à Baiana" by Luperce Miranda. While he played the second piece, the mandolinist was impaired by a problem with the sound system and had to repeated the music. As he was announced as the winner, Brito expressed gratutude and promised to take care of “the authentic Brazilian music”.
