The young mandolinist Danilo Brito, 19, was the grand winner of the 7th Visa Award of Brazilian Music, this past Thursday night in Teatro Municipal de São Paulo. Usually shy, Brito did not hide his jitters and, receiveing the prize, he gave a speech thanking and praising the other competitors: “I promise to take care of our music, the authentic Brazilian music”. With the victory, Brito will receive R$ 110,000, along with the recording a CD for the Eldorado label.

“Mandolinist Danilo Brito had impressed since the early stages of the award, and was considered one of the favorites. The first piece presented by the young musician, who had many fans in the audience, was É Do Que Há, a piece by Luís Americano. In his second piece, Choro da Saudade, by Augustin Barrios, a technical problem with the sound system interfered with the presentation, and the audience, vexed, called for the music to be played again. With the problem fixed, Brito repeated the music and received a standing ovation by the audience, which became even more excited with Picadinho a Baiana, a choro by Luperce Miranda that the musician chose to close his presentation.”
