The experts guarantee: the boy is a true genius. He plays not only the cavaquinho, but, mainly, the mandolin, better than many adults. Guitarist for 30 years, Manoel Andrade has seen many boys at his age that were really good, but he says Danilo is special. “He was born with this gift, he can be great with little effort. I’ve never seen a kid play O Vôo da Mosca (Jacob do Bandolim), which has almost three thousand notes, with the same speed and skill.”...

 

Mrs. Noêmia, mother of the young mandolinist, says that, besides watching his father playing, her son used to listen a cassete with pieces of  Jacob do Bandolim (who died 16 years before the kid was born) in an old tape recorder. Even when the machine broke, he would put the cassete in the recorder and turned with his little fingers, thinking that the sound would come out. ...

Danilo grew up listen to choro. He doesn’t like rock, rap, axé music...

“I like to listen to Nelson Gonçalves, Orlando Silva, Waldyr Azevedo and, most of all, Jacob do Bandolim”, he says with pride...

 

Rather quiet and shy, Danilo does not worry about explaining how he can achieve playing such difficult pieces, without ever having taken classes. And when someone says that it is because he is truly good, he modestly whiper: “So they say...”
